Yamaha has just launched a new variant in the Cygnus Ray ZR automatic scooter line-up. Called the Street Rally, the new variant is a sportier version of the Yamaha Ray ZR automatic scooter in India.
The new Yamaha Ray ZR Street Rally edition is available in two colour options — Rally Red and Racing Blue — with interesting graphics. The new front visor fairing is inspired from Yamaha MT-09 sportbike and the company says that it serving as the wind deflector while enhancing the sporty look as well. The new visor comes with integrated knuckle guards which protect from windblast on the handle grips. The rear view mirrors are also new and are sharper than before, and the scooter also features a digital meter.
There is no mechanical update on the scooter and the Street Rally edition continues to get the same 7.2PS and a torque of 8.1Nm from the 113cc air-cooled engine. Based on the Yamaha’s patented ‘Blue Core’ technology — claimed to provide optimum performance and efficiency — the motor gets a continuously variable transmission (CVT) unit. The edition also gets the 170mm front disc brake as standard.
However, the Yamaha Ray ZR’s relatively light kerb weight of 105 kilograms does mean that performance is more than adequate for everyday use. A CVT automatic transmission is standard on this scooter. Claimed mileage is an impressive 66 Kmpl. Telescopic front forks and a monoshock rear make for suspension, while the front wheel gets a 170-mm disc brake. The rear wheel gets a drum brake. Alloy wheels and tubeless tyres are standard. The Yamaha Ray ZR range of automatic scooters are targeted at younger buyers who want a sharp looking scooter that’s fun to ride.
